Kathleen "Kathy" Jones (otherwise known best by her eleven grandchildren as "Gibby") passed away on December 15th, 2024 after a year-long battle with cancer. From the day she received the unfortunate news about her diagnosis, Kathy was determined to fight and keep her focus on Jesus Christ as she always did, day in and day out, throughout her life.  Her daily dependance on Christ and Love she had for her Savior was her utmost focus and was where she found her peace and comfort.  Kathy left a tremendous and unmatched legacy of caring and service to people and families in need through her home church, Burnt Hickory Baptist located in Powder Springs, GA. She always had a special place in her heart for single mothers and has been there to help as they navigate some difficult times, whether that is financial, relational or spiritual. Kathy’s father died of a sudden heart attack at the age of 51 years old, leaving Kathy's mother to care for her and her 4 siblings.  She watched as her mother showed resilience, courage and steadfastness, but nevertheless struggled financially.  Kathy left behind her husband Steve of 50 years, 3 children and 11 grandchildren. The first of her grandchildren (her oldest granddaughter) gave Kathy the grandmother nickname of “Gibby,” which, throughout the years has proven to become a uniquely beloved name by her grandchildren.  The "Gibby" nickname will continue to live on in the future, when Kathy's daughter (Amanda), one day will have the opportunity to also be called "Gibby;" as there is no greater honor to pass along such a special name.

While in the hospital, during Kathy's final days, one of the last things she said was to please make sure a check of financial support was mailed to a single young mom in Ohio that Kathy had been supporting throughout the previous year.  During her hospital stay, Kathy also noticed the hurt and struggle of a nurse assistant at her bedside who was a single mom struggling to support her family during the holiday season and sure enough, our Gibby, provided the single mother in need more than enough money at that moment to help feed her family.  Kathy was so very humble in giving of her time and money to serve others and did not want any type of recognition whatsoever.  She genuinely enjoyed helping people in their times of need.  Kathy was a reflection of Jesus to those that crossed her path and came in contact with.  She lived her life putting the needs of others first, served her family, church and others well and extended Grace to those around her.

We decided to honor Kathy by creating this trust to help serve the hundreds of single moms not only in the state of Georgia, but throughout the country. The “Gibby’s Grace” trust has been created through the Georgia Baptist Foundation and is controlled by our family. All donations should be made to the Georgia Baptist Foundation in the "Gibby’s Grace" fund, Account #96913.  Any financial assistance and help will be filtered through Burnt Hickory Baptist church to the families by a vetting process to make sure their need is legitimate. We would appreciate any financial donation you can make to help support GIBBYS GRACE. All donations are certainly tax deductible, and the appropriate communication will be sent from the Georgia Baptist Foundation following a donation.  Please see the options below for donating by check, credit/debit card or eCheck(ACH).  Our website is just getting started and as this trust grows throughout the months and years ahead, we will be including pictures and correspondence of how single moms, individuals and families are being helped and ministered to.
